Towards a more merciful, peaceful, and righteous world.

Dear Friend,

Right now, we find ourselves between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, known as the Ten Days of Awe. It is a unique time of year for all of us to pause, reflect, and renew. This isn’t just about personal growth; it’s something we experience together. We look within to consider our actions, and we also remember how much we matter to one another.

Teshuvah, the act of return, is not meant to be done in isolation. It is a central Jewish concept and process to repair wrongdoing by returning to a path of righteousness. It gains strength and meaning within the context of community, our Western Mass community. In asking forgiveness and offering it, we rebuild trust, restore broken bonds, and remind ourselves that no one is truly alone in their striving. Our prayers rise more powerfully when voiced together, our commitments to change are strengthened by shared purpose.

Our community gives each of us room to find our own way, and at the same time, it shows us the values we want to live by: compassion, justice, humility, and hope. During these holy days, we remember that being in relationship — with God, with ourselves, and with each other — is what makes life meaningful.

May this time move us forward toward wholeness, and may we strengthen the bonds that hold us together, as a community and as a people, ever reaching towards a more merciful, peaceful, and righteous world.

Shabbat Shalom,
Gmar Chatimah Tovah,

Adam Solender
