Four Roads to Freedom is both a concert and a catalyst for community education and collaboration. The October 17th concert at Bombyx features Black Civil Rights anthems, Irish Rebel music, South American Nueva Canción confronting political repression, and Yiddish labor songs from the early 20th century. It will be a launching pad for companion activities that deepen engagement and expand impact. The Yiddish Book Center, David Ruggles House, and the Hispanic-American Library (Springfield) are interested in offering relevant tours, workshops, family events, and social media content under the Four Roads umbrella. Through the collaboration of local artists and community groups, Four Roads to Freedom will unite, educate, and inspire action for social justice.
The concert features highly-respected, MA-based musicians, including: Adah Hetko, New Jewish Culture Fellow and MCC Creative Individual grant recipient; Gloria Matlock, vocalist/educator with 50+ years performing Black spiritual music; Jimmy McCardle and Gerry Murphy, popular Irish musicians have performed with The Clancy Brothers and The Wolfe Tones; and Nicolás Emden, Berklee-educated Chilean singer/songwriter and New England Music Award winner. Along with Adam Matlock and Michael Nix.
