The Springfield Jewish Community Center is a family-oriented agency for Jewish identification, with membership open to the entire community. It seeks to meet the cultural, social and recreational needs of the Jewish and general community, serving over 5,000 people in more than 300 programs. Incorporated as the YMHA of Greater Springfield in 1895, the Jewish Community Center maintains programs for infants to senior adults. A sampling of programs include full and part-time childcare for children 15 months to 10 years, parent-child gym and swim, after-school enrichment classes, youth groups, day camp, travel programs, Jewish singles activities, aerobics, sports leagues, theater, concerts, lectures and more. The Jewish Community Center serves as a location for community gatherings and events. Major programs, such as the Jewish Book Fair, Life Enrichment Expo, and the Purim Carnival, are held annually and are open to the entire community. In addition the Center cosponsors with the Federation the annual Chanukah Celebration and is a major sponsor of the annual Jewish Film Festival.
